I bought one in May 2000. Its pretty good except for the fact that somehow the dubbing is not working. I can play it back fine on my TV but i cant record on a cassette. It might be a problem with my VCR but i will check it out . Overall it is really good quality and a great price.

This camcorder comes with plenty of features including steadyshot, 560x digital zoom and 20x optical zoom. Even though the battery it comes with is for two hours only, it suits him just fine. He has taken many shots and loved them all. The effects are neat:sephia, pastel, negative art, black&white, solarize, mosaic, slim, stretch. The sephia is my favorite and reminds me what old movies looked like. There are also many fades to choose from. Sony really has put a lot of work into this camera. I really suggest you buy it if your looking for a high-quality, moderatly priced camcorder.

I bought this camcorder to replace a Canon 8mm that was over 8 years old. My Canon camcorder stopped recording sound and finally stopped working. Canon would not repair it because it was an old model. My family has several Sony electronics products and none of them have had any problems. That says enough for me about Sony quality. About the camcorder...I like the video quality produced by the Sony Hi8 TRV98. It is a little better than the standard 8mm picture produced by my old Canon camcorder. I know Hi8 is not as good as the 500+ line resolution of Digital 8. However, the Hi8 400+ line picture quality is great. The pictures are sharp with excellent color. This is a great camera for the price if you do not plan on "going digital" to load videos to your computer. I like the large 3.5 inch LCD screen, Lithium Ion battery and the S-video out. ....

I have just bought this camcorder and it is great. I was looking to buy a digital camera, 640 by 480 resolution or lower. I decided to save my money and buy a camcorder instead. When i saw this camcorder, i could not turn it down and so i bought it. To my surprise it performed in both modes above par. I was also surprise with the amount of features it had, so much, i haven't figured some of them as yet(I bought it today). Anyway, i would recommend this product to anyone who wants a good camcorder for their money.

Bought this camera and found it to be a great! I really loved the digital camera function. The camera doesn't take the best picutes in low light situations but I found it well lite situations it did great. Easy to download to the computer. The video functions were what I thought were exceptional. I have used a Sharp ViewCam many times and I think this Panasonic camera outdoes the Sharp hands down. I especially was impressed by the many extra features which I did not know were out in the market. Only disadvantage is that it is a heavier camera than I would have liked.

This is a very good Camera I couldn't be happier, but if you think that this can replace a Digital camera your mistaken. I bought this as a camcorder and the digital still camera was a bonus to me, but I will still need to purchase a Digital camera to get photo quality still shots to display on my mantel. Camera take exceptional pictures, has high quality in Hi8 mode. You can purchase long life batteries (>2500 MaH) that allow you to record for extremely long periods even using the LCD screen as your viewfinder. The image stabilization is very good, allowing videos to be hand held, but yielding a very stable picture. The internal lens cap feature is very nice, out of the way when shooting, yet nothing to lose. The resolution on the direct viewfinder is exceptional, and even though it is B/W it is very usable combined with the color LCD for playback. Having an internal viewfinder is extremely useful in bright light situations where the LCD is washed out/hard to see.

Overall an exceptional product, with a very good price. Has held up well in trips to Europe, Western USA, and New England, as well as for family gatherings.

I haven't used very many camcorders yet, so I don't think I can fairly compare the ES420V against the competition. I can tell you that while I was impressed with all the features of the camcorder, I found it hard to hold and confusing to use ONLY at first. The video quality was impressive though, especially considering the relatively low expenditure. Compared to the Canon Elura2, I'd choose the Elura2 -- it's a bit easier to use and includes impressive stills. If you're in the market for a camcorder under [price], the ES420Vis ideal!

My dad owned a video camera kind of like this but the thing that you put your eye to wasn't circular. But everything else was cool. Anyways, my dad gave me the video camera because it was about 13 years old and he had bought a new VHS-C video camera. He used to have a video camera that you watch the videos on DVD but then got the other one I was mentioning because one time when we were in Hawaii eating at a restaurant, we got ripped off by some guys but we didn't know. When we went back in the car so we can drive to our destination, we first didn't know that we were missing anything until we got to our destination. My dad was the one who found out we got ripped off from gangsta boys. We didn't do anything but just let it go. I am going back to talking about the video camera my dad gave me. One thing I like about this video camera is that when your done and finished with the whole tape, you don't have to finalize it like you have to do for the video camera that you watch your videos on DVD. That is one thing my dad hated about the DVD video camera. The only thing he liked about it was that it was so clear on the screen. Anyways, when it was summer 2006 after school ended, I took this video camera with me to take to my granparent's house to video tape myself playing baseball. I used a pro training stick which was the bat and batted plastic balls. I caught myself on video lots of times hitting home runs. Pretty good playa boy. How the way i'll catch myself on video hitting home runs is that i'll put this video camera on something outside like the bench or something else. For pitching, I'll put the video camera on our slide at our grandparent's house to tape my grandfather and I. I caught myself throwing lots of fast strikes. Thanks Panasonic and dad!

I researched camcorders for 4 weeks straight before deciding upon this Panasonic. It has all the features (LCD screen, built in light, best optical zoom-focus available 26x, 150x digital zoom, remote, digital fades, titling, image stabalization...the list goes on! ) of other quality camcorders, only at half the cost! We absolutely LOVE this camera! My only concern was that is was VHS-C, as opposed to 8mm...BUT that is definately not a concern anymore. The picture quality of this Panasonic VHS-C is outstanding, and has great sound too! Another awesome feature is you don't have to hook up your camera to your tv or vcr everytime you want to watch what you taped (like the 8mm camcorders...ugh!)....this Panasonic comes with the VHS-C adapter tape cartridge the you just insert into your VCR like a regular VHS tape. All you do is push PLAY! If you've been looking for a quality camera but don't want to fork over tons of money....this is definatlely your BEST bet!

Very good camcorder for those looking for less buttons, easy to use and great results. The LCD screen is great for recording yourself and with others, knowing you got the shot you wanted and those tri-pod shots to difficult looking through a view finder. A movement activation option for those who what to see what goes on while their away is rather cool. It works so well in low level light, we haven't used the built-in light source yet. It is a very good product for the price that we pay for it. All the advertised Specs works and Much better than any other camcorder in it's class. I Found that this Camcorder has S-Video out too! which is very cool, It can be used to Capture Video using a MPEG Capture card and make VideoCDs!. It has LP mode and with Proper Tapes you can get about 8hrs of recording time. The supplied Battery lasts for about 160mins. Again it is a very cool product 5 Stars for it!, Buy it if you still can find it, It is hard to find this product in stores and ONLINE.

It's lightweight & easy to use. It has the Sony Nigthshot feature for 0 Lux recording. The battery that came with it gave me 190 minutes from the battery display (850amphrs). I left it recordng & it went for 2 hours & then some as I didn't get to see how long it would record but at least that long. I found it easy to hold & the buttons are pretty comfortable. The zoom is an easy slide button on top instead of a rocker switch. The viewfinder was clear & with a nice adjustment so that I could see things sharp. It can even make the text in the viewfinder twice as big. The digital zoom is great but you get fuzzy pictures using it with any camera, but lucky with this camera you can turn it off, or set it to 40x or 200x. The optical zoom of 20x is very nice. Most digital cameras only have 10x zoom. I don't miss the pull out lcd view finder because I don't want strangers looking at it & I don't need a digital camera after all cause I can input the video with the s-video out on this camera into my computers s-video in card & have a digital mpeg-1 or mpeg-2 recording on the HD. Windows ME & Xp come with free video editing software anyway for this & I can out put it to vcd or svcd. Also nifty is a cool option to turn off the record light in front of the camera so people don't know you are recording :-)

This is my first camcorder. I was intrigued by the special price run on it. I bought it online on my lunch break and stopped by Circuit City on the way home from work and picked it up.

It is a Hi8/8mm recorder and does not record in stereo, but it is very nice! The battery says it lasts for 2 hours, but I have gotten around 3 on a charge. The camera is very simple to use. I have figured out most of the options just by playing around with it. It shoots in very low light and even has a low light feature which will work in almost darkness. The picture and audio quality are outstanding! It is worth every penny in my opinion. It is a great beginner's unit, but if you want something more high-end then I would look at a digital camera.

There are a lot of options for accessories including a 20-hour battery. The unit is very lightweight and compact, which makes it easy to carry and easy to do precision filming with. I highly recommend this unit to anyone looking to venture into the camcorder market.
